BBC Complaints - Case number CAS-543481-0GZMZ4

Dear Mr Youlten

Reference CAS-543481

Thanks for contacting us regarding ‘Chris Evans’, broadcast on BBC
Radio 2 on 12 January.

I understand that you felt an article on electric cars was
ill-conceived and did not add anything to the debate on renewable
technologies. You were concerned that the article could be perceived
as negative towards electric cars.

I appreciate your concerns here. Impartiality is the cornerstone of
all our output and we ensure all our correspondents and production
teams are aware of this to help us deliver fair and balanced coverage
for all the stories we report. We seek neither to denigrate nor
promote any particular view.

The 'Chris Evans' show is generally understood as an irreverent and
light-hearted magazine and the audience is aware that the primary
purpose of the programme. We are sorry if you felt this report was
biased against electric cars, but assure you that this was never our
intent.

I’d like to assure you that I’ve registered your complaint on our
daily audience log. This is a daily report on audience feedback which
is circulated to BBC staff, including programme teams, members of the
BBC Executive board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape
decisions on future BBC programmes and content.

Thanks for taking the time to send us your comments.

Kind Regards

Mark Madden
